Solar Barque Museum
Learn how the Egyptian Pharons took their cruising routes from the sun and straight to eternity.
This museum is located on the territory of the pyramids and showcases a reconstructed "solar boat", buried along with the Pharaoh Cheops approximately 4,578 years ago. It is believed that the boat carried the mummy of the dead pharaoh across the Nile to the valley temple, from where it was put into the tomb chamber. The boat was then buried near the pyramid to provide the pharaoh with a transportation in the next world. Â
The 43ft long, cedar-wood boat was uncovered in 1954. It was then carefully restored from 1200 pieces of wood and encased in a glass museum to protect it from damage. Visitors to the museum will be asked to wear protective footwear to keep sand out. Entrance fee: Egyptians: LE5 (students LE2) - Foreigners: LE50 (students LE25)
