Darts Pub
Fairmont Heliopolis & Towers, Cairo, Uruba St.
2267 77 30 / 40
By Moataz Sedky

Just like in a complicated darts game, Darts Pub at Fairmont Heliopolis & Towers hits the target of satisfying costumers on all possible levels. I cannot put my finger on something specific that made the place so special, but their ambience, the food, the drinks and – above all – the music seemed to awake the deepest emotions in each and every visitor.

The atmosphere was welcoming; it radiated that kind of warmth and coziness that can only be felt in places you have visited many times before. From the first step, the venue struck us as authentically English, full of people mingling, drinking, singing or just sharing their positive emotions. The couches felt comfy, the dartboards were inviting; while the fire-place with its coral-red tongues of flame was stirring something deep inside each one of us.

As the book is judged by its cover, a restaurant is judged by its appetizers and Darts Pub’s special Smoked Salmon Salad made of red beets, goat cheese and baby potatoes made a good show, impressing with both taste and originality. The renowned Buffalo Hot Wings that came with a concentrated blue cheese dip and celery sticks were absolutely palatable or as my friend justly remarked “the yummiest buffalo wings I have ever tasted in Cairo!” The drinks were also noteworthy. We ordered Darts Passion – an intriguing fusion of fresh kiwi, pineapple and guava juices mixed with a sweet vanilla syrup – surely a good choice when you want to sooth the spiciness of the HOT buffalo wings.

The main dishes followed the same pattern of original taste and fabulous presentation. I opted for the hot and crispy Atlantic Salmon Steak served with a citrus butter sauce and a plate of mashed potatoes; while my friend went for Grilled Rib Eye Steak flawlessly roasted and brought to him with potato gratin and seasonal vegetables. So while I enjoyed every bite of my seafood dish, I heard my friend mumbling something along the lines of “that’s the kind of steak I’ve been looking for” – a compliment that has never touched his lips before.

Yet, the specialty of the place was certainly their entertainment (though their food was heavenly too, rest assured!). Our Wednesday night out was spiced up by a one-man show, performing everything from the never-dying classics as Chris De Burgh and Sting to some Oriental tunes including the one and only Fayruz. But surely, they also had a set of big TV screens perfect for soccer matches and ideal for relaxation after a long working day.

So, I definitely recommend the place if you are in the mood for a complete English Pub experience.
