Celebrating a century of tastiness, class and exquisite services, this renowned British icon, which has become a classical tradition in most of the world’s capitals, is now a star added to Cairo’s biggest shopping mall Citystars.
The success is overwhelming and the reason behind it lies in its historic significance and quality-oriented offerings. Being originally established by the French couple Mr. and Mrs. Richoux in the heart of London, this dining café has solely developed the “all-day” dining concept, meaning that guests can freely have eggs for dinner or liver paté for breakfast; or in other words, whatever their cravings dictate!
Firstly, let me tell you about the enchanting ambiance of the place. The dominating red and beige setup with leather couches and cushioned seats, complemented with classical patterned wallpapers, strike as true representatives of the British culture; nevertheless, Richoux’s French origins are quite vivid in the golden mirrors on the wall, the background music and the distinguished French menu items. Yet, the harmonic mixture between the two great cultures add charm to the place’s elegance and character - all at affordable prices.
Once you get seated, either remote from any disturbance in the quiet corner, or on the passage-way of the mall, you’ll be astonished by the service quality at the place. The waiters are immaculate and exceptionally well-trained (guided by the old school of hospitability) and are marked with three main features: homey, courteous and efficient.
Talking of the menu, it is hard to choose an item amongst the brilliant selection of mouthwatering items that you could either start or close your day with. Most of the items listed have an addictive characteristics: this is due to the fact that the old classical and tasty cookery became rare nowadays. All the items are freshly cooked on the spot; whereas their home-baked patisserie bread with special German grains, the award-winning coffee beans, specially planted and imported from Italy and absolutely delicious main dishes make this place a destination must-go for all fabulous taste seekers.
For breakfast, Richoux offers a wide variety for self-spoiling diners, ranging from international cuisine to traditional English breakfast. Here you can order the palatable Eggs Benedict with Smoked Salmon (smoked salmon and two poached eggs covered in hollandaise sauce and served on a toasted broche, grilled to brown), or the world’s famous Welsh Rarebit, masterfully prepared using an original Richoux recipe (a blend if mature cheddar, Worcestershire sauce and a spread of English mustard topping, freshly baked white toast, served with a mixed leaf garnish). The good news is that there is no time limitation for ordering breakfast, it could be served till late afternoon!
The page-turning menu keeps surprising its readers, moving towards the main dishes featuring fish, meat and chicken courses, among which are the traditional Fish and Chips, marvelously prepared with its deep fried fish fillet, dipped in butter and served with French fries and tartar sauce. Additionally, there is the Shepherd’s Pie, an oven-baked dish with minced lamb and fresh herbs, topped with mashed potatoes and fresh vegetables.
The perfect Friday treat can be selected from the amazing patisserie and desserts menu; while chocolate lovers will find Richoux’s selection of chocolate items a delight. Their Crème Brûllee is superbly mastered as well, yet those looking for something soothing, should make their choice amongst their ice cream coupes and specials, a truly breathtaking variety. For caffeine appreciators, we have one advice: try all the coffee menu... seriously!
It is worth mentioning that due to the huge success of Richoux in the capital, they are opening soon in Mohandessin; just to reach out for more fine dining lovers.
