There is no need to overpay in search of excellent food and cozy atmosphere; all you have to do is visit Azure at Iberotel, located just opposite the old terminal of Cairo International Airport.
Coming here by car, be ready to park it in the hotel’s parking area (no valet service is available) and walk up a tiny hill leading to the hotel’s marble lobby. Once there, the friendly staff will accompany you to the neat restaurant that puts much emphasis on service and food rather than on chic décor and luxurious ornaments.
Boasting a distinctive Arabian theme absorbed in every item of its interior, the restaurant is designed in such a way that all the windows are facing the hotel’s swimming pool, adding to the tranquility of the venue. Soft music playing some of the most famous international hits and the fact that the restaurant is located on the outskirts of the round-the-clock busy Cairo make Azure a perfect spot for those who are looking for a quiet spot, away from capital’s loud crowds.
As far as the food is concerned: do not be fooled by the venue’s French name, as the menu proudly embraces items of the international cuisine. And while you will be going through their rich variety, the helpful waiters will serve you Azure’s French bread* brought to you with two types of sauces and butter. And though it was delicious and tempting, many other yummy dishes were ahead of us. We kicked off with the wonderful appetizers and were not disappointed: Salmon Tartar (served with oven-dried beef tomatoes, resting on a bed of salad and sparkled with basil oil) surprised us with its wonderful presentation and great taste; while the noteworthy Smoked Shrimp Salad (topped with mustard cream sauce) made a striking combination of flavors.
We did not fail to notice that vegetarian items were also present in the menu, featuring such dishes as Parmesan Tower (crispy parmesan chips layered with roasted vegetables on marinated sweet pepper), the traditional Lentil Soup, the marvelous Italian Eggplant Lasagna (rolls of eggplant with roasted vegetables and Mozzarella tomato sauce) or the Buffalo Mozzarella (consisting of Mozzarella cheese, tomato and basil pesto with cream of artichokes and balsamic vinegar).
Deciding not to skip the portion of a steamy soup, we opted for the Mushroom Cappuccino not forgetting to leave room for a huge portion of the main course. Here the options were limitless: Italian cuisine was represented by a good selection of pasta dishes including Ravioli with Goat Cheese (served with mushroom cream sauce and forest herbs); while poultry and meat dishes were abounding the menu, offering items to suit every taste. We recommend you to try out the spicy Volcano Huli-Huli (grilled chicken brochettes served with Soya sauce) or the Prime Rib (carved in front of your table and served with gravy and radish cream). Yet, if you look for something special, do not hesitate to opt for the venue’s highlight – fresh fish and seafood brought daily from either the Red or the Mediterranean Sea. Prepared according to your liking and priced by the weight, these dishes are all served with a generous portion of rice and vegetables.
* All the bread, fettuccine and butter are hand-made by Azure’s chef.
Desserts were another advantage, boasting at least 20 different items on its famous Iberotel Trolley, ranging from tarts to fruit salads and gateaux; whereas the beverage menu listed a whole spectrum of various hot and cold beverages, plus alcoholic and non-alcoholic options. Deciding to stick to the healthier drinks, we tried out the yummy Lawrence of Arabia (a blend of guava, mango, banana and grenadine syrup) and Fresh Cocktail fusing mango and strawberry.
The service was quick, efficient, polite and tactful, making us even more pleased with the wonderful experience Azure had to offer.
